Go to Hampi. Go directly to Hampi.

It’s only about 300 kilometres by train, which is after the hour-long taxi ride from Panjim to Margao railway station. Oh, and then there’ll be another hour-long taxi ride from Hospet to the Sanapur area of Hampi which is awash with rice paddies, cows, tourists and monkeys. And then a little walk to your accommodation. Wherever that may be tucked away.....

Itinerary for Hampi

1. Get on a train just after dawn; scam a good possie near the window until it gets too hot.
2. Stay on the train for oooh...hours and hours and hours, eating crisps and drinking Miranda soft drink.
3. Giggle quietly to yourself as you watch Balders' travel narcolepsy kick in about 30 minutes into the journey.
4. Travel through the Western Ghats and stand at the doorway feeling the wind on your face and marvelling at the fact that you CAN be responsible for not falling out of the train.
5. Don’t fall out of the train.
6. Get off the train about 700 hours later and haggle for a taxi at Hospet.
7. Arrive at accommodation as it’s getting dark.
8. Find somewhere to eat. Oh heaven – accommodation does food. And it’s good food too!
9. Beer.
10. Sleep.

Subsequent days can be spent eating, being a tourist, drinking, talking to cows, snoozing, laughing, eating, getting blessed by elephants, drinking, sleeping, eating, avoiding having stuff knocked off by monkeys, drinking, exploring, snoozing....you see the pattern, right?
