Lake Eppalock is another place I’d never been to up until a couple of years ago. I’d always imagined it was at least 300kms away. When I was a kid, other people always seemed to be "going camping at Eppalock". I assumed you camped in places that were very far away from where you lived.
I was quite surprised when I discovered that it was just over an hour's drive from my place.
It was mad foggy on the morning drive to the lake. I had to stop to check out what I thought was a sprinkling of snow on a field. It wasn’t snow…just bits of dead grass and weeds on a recently hoed plot. I was half expecting an axe-wielding homicidal maniac to burst through the fog and chop my head off, but I saw nothing apart from a few bored looking warblers.
You’d expect in winter there’d be a fair amount of water in the lake. Not so. Like Eildon, its water level is so low, you might as well just drive across the lake. Which you almost could do on this boat ramp.
