Went on a girlie road trip with my bestie, Balders, who is truly fabulous and not just because she once got rid of a huntsman spider in my house while I hid in the local supermarket. She's also good at killing moths. My contribution to the friendship is that I will kick a wasp in the face if absolutely necessary. We filled the car with petrol, snacks and good tunes and headed up to Eden on the Sapphire Coast (NSW) via Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyers Beach (just for a look), Nowa Nowa, Orbost, Cann River and Genoa. Along the way we found the Stony Creek Trestle Bridge (it probably wasn't lost), had a beer with bite at the Bullant Brewery in Bruthren, a tour of the Buchan Caves and a wander through a spooky forest to Boyd's Tower in Ben Boyd National Park.
Evenings of beer, wine, scrabble and a staple diet of unhealthy everything ensured. We had a cabin opposite a beach at Eden (not next to the cemetery, which is also opposite a beach), so there were lots of al fresco grazing plates to be had on the deck whilst the serenity hovered. The weather was warm enough to entice both of us into the sea and neither of us got eaten by anything. Not even a lick. We had to leave after five days as we were in danger of becoming actual hippies.
